Runs from Interstate 90-New York Thruway at Exit 47 to Interstate 90-New York Thruway at Exit 45
Runs through a small portion of Genesee and Ontario Counties, with the majority of the roadway in Monroe County.
Passes through the city of Rochester.
Length is approximately 37 miles.
Between Exits 13 and 15 is part of the Inner Loop. Elsewhere it's the Eastern Expressway or Western Expressway (east or west of the Inner Loop). Originally the Eastern was thought of as a spur of the Thruway, the Western came later.
In 1956, Rochester abandoned it's trolley subway system to build the Eastern Expressway to meet the Thruway in Victor. Exits 16-21 are original subway right-of-way. The eastbound lanes occupy the original right of way, the cut had to be widened to accomodate the westbound lanes. For more information on the Rochester Subway, visit Otto Vondrak's site.
