- Runs from NY Route 48 and NY Route 631 near Baldwinsville to Interstate 481 in the Town of De Witt.
- Located in the Syracuse area in Onondaga County.
- Length is approximately 20 miles (for both I-690 and NY Route 690).
- Milepost data listed approximate. There are no exit numbers on the NY Route 690 exits because the south end of NY Route 690 and the west end of Interstate 690 come together. This would create two Exit 1s. This is the only instance in Upstate New York where the similarly numbered interstate and state routes encounter this situation.
- All of the interchanges on Interstate 690 were renumbered in 1987 when the west end of I-690 (and south end of NY Route 690) was moved 1 1/2 miles to the west with the relocation of Thruway Exit 39. To give you a point of reference, Exit 5, State Fair Blvd./Van Vleck Rd. was originally Exit 1. About 1/4 mile west of this interchange was a traffic light where Interstate 690 originally ended and became NY 690. Westbound traffic had to make a left hand turn at the traffic light to get on the Thruway. Remnants of this entrance ramp can be seen as you look towards the left as you are heading westbound. 'Spare' toll booths sit approximately where the original Toll Barrier was.
- There is no direct access from I-690 EB to I-81 NB or I-81 SB to I-690 WB. To accomodate this, NY Route 298 (Bear Street) was upgraded to a four lane road in each direction with the construction of Interstate 690 in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
- The traffic light on Interstate 690 during the New York State Fair.
- The 'ghost ramps' at the eastern end of Interstate 690 at the interchange with Interstate 481. These were to lead to a road that was to extend to Fayetteville, reportedly NY Route 290. These ramps were used for a brief time when I-481 was only completed as far north as I-690 (and as far south as Jamesville Rd.) The first overhead gantry for Bridge St. heading eastbound used to have an additional sign on the right for I-481 SOUTH, Jamesville. It was there for a while as a blank sign wth the letters having been removed.
- All the "fold up" signs around the State Fairgrounds. These are pretty cool in that they're vintage button copy signs from the late 1970s and are in great condition because they only see the light of day two weeks a year.
